A retrievable electromechanical plug designed for temporary isolation in gas and gas-condensate wells. The aim is to reduce well intervention operations while allowing recovery of the plug. The technology concept has been documented at readiness level 2. Prototype manufacture, testing and field trials are future stages, subject to approvals and funding.
Challenge and proposed solution
Industrial challenge: reduce the number of operations required for temporary well isolation.
Approach: jointly develop the mechanical retrievable barrier and electronic control system.
Next steps: corporate assessment, prototype design documentation and an agreed testing programme.
